"Dos Hamacas," (Two Hammocks) is the name for our home in Nosara, Costa Rica.
We're Greg and Susan Smith. We've been spending most of our time in Nosara for the last few years. It's October, 2009, as I write this and we've just moved into Dos Hamacas.
The name of the house comes from the fact that we designed the terrace of the home to accommodate a hand-made Pawleys Island (South Carolina) rope hammock on each end. I (Greg here) used to live in Pawley's Island. Hence, the preference for this particularly fine hammock.
We created this website to help answer questions we get all the time from our friends and from people we meet. They often want to see pictures. They want to know more about living in a tropical paradise like Nosara.
To tell what it's like to live here, I like to quote our nearest neighbor. She says that she and her husband often look out in the morning over the Nosara River Valley, the mountains, the Pacific coastline and all the blue skies above it and they ask themselves a rhetorical question:
"What did we ever do to deserve this?"
When we first tell someone that we have a home in Costa Rica, their most commonly asked question is: "What do you do there?" Again, I'll quote some Nosara friends who are often called upon to answer the same question:
One says, "I wake up every morning wondering what I'm going to do. By noon, I'm wondering how I'm going to get everything done."
This particular neighbor, John Howells, has written a book about retiring in Costa Rica. You can learn more about his book, and order it here.
Another neighbor, when asked what he does in Nosara, says, "Sometimes I sit and think...." Then he adds, ".....and sometimes I just sit."
Susan would tell you I do more than my share of "just sitting" at Dos Hamacas. But in truth we spend our day pretty much the same way people our age spend their days in the U.S. You can see the breakdown of what we all do, on average here.

The gated community in which we live in Nosara is called Bosque Verde (Green Forest). We thought it was the most perfect place in the world to invest in our retirement/vacation home. If you have any interest in knowing more about the place and maybe becoming our neighbor, go to this website: www.BosqueVerdeReserve.com.
We hope this website gives you a little of the flavor of life here. If you have specific questions, feel free to contact us:
